This is me

My name is Jan Paul Schirmer (Paul). I hold a BSc in Economics and an MSc in Finance & Investments. I started my first company as a university student and have since been involved in founding and developing several successful businesses. Along the way, I also gained experience in investment banking.

Helping companies reach the next stage of development gives me a sense of contributing to society.

Seeing the courage and determination in the eyes of founders reinforces my belief that the best is yet to come.

I bring you my experience as an entrepreneur and expertise as a finance professional to support you in making the best decisions, from concept to exit.

Here are some examples of areas where I can support you:

Business Idea

Turning a product or service idea into a compelling value proposition involves tasks like modeling cost structure and revenue streams and gathering evidence to support the core assumptions. This stage also includes delivering the hard truth if we don’t see a viable risk/return trade-off for your idea.

Starting up

Setting up your business: From establishing optimal incentives for the founding team (shareholder agreements) to selecting a tax consultant and addressing other administrative challenges. Implementing an effective control system to manage cash flow and track progress, and overseeing the development budget for key assets like patents or prototypes.

Dealing with Liquidity Issues

Often, it’s not the quality of the product or service, but liquidity issues that force entrepreneurs to abandon their businesses prematurely. We can help restructure your business to navigate immediate challenges and determine the right capital mix for your next financing round.

Viable Business Stage

You’ve eliminated substantial risk in your business, and now you’re looking to reduce your personal exposure while still retaining influence. We offer services at this stage, including formal business valuation, assistance with investor negotiations, and preparation of a post-transaction business plan, ensuring an optimal exit strategy.

Business Plan

Developing strategies to bring your product or service to market, backed by a technically sound financial business plan that allows investors to evaluate the risks and potential rewards of your strategy, reducing information asymmetries. Establishing a valuation to serve as the basis for investor negotiations.

Growth Stage

There will be times when, as a business owner, you may feel that you’re no longer focused on your product or service but are instead spending all your time simply "keeping the company together." We can support you in managing your company’s growth by establishing a flexible infrastructure. This often involves a temporary period of interim management to assess operational processes, followed by the implementation of targeted improvements.

Co-Founder Disputes

Co-founder and management disputes are the number one challenge for young companies. While success can temporarily mask these issues, any significant challenge will often bring unresolved conflicts to the surface. Successful companies don’t avoid problems; they embrace conflict as an opportunity for improvement. We can support you as an independent mediator who also understands the operational challenges your company faces.
